New homes planning on Orchard Park

The council in partnership with Riverside and Wates Construction has built 52 new homes (36 new two and three bed houses alongside 16 one bed council aprtments) on the land at Homethorpe.

The council continues to work in partnership with Riverside to bid for and develop more affordable housing and housing for sale in the future, exploring opportunities around Danepark Road.

Riverside have been selected as the contractor to build the extra care apartments on Hall Road (The Thorpes site) next to the site on which Wates is currently building.

New build Mildane

New homes are proposed for the land to the North of Hall Road on the former Mildane flats site (south of Isledane and Danepark) and planning was approved in October 2015 for 178 new homes.  The first phase of 86 new homes is now underway and expected to finish January 2018 on the lower western half of the site; the remainder of the site wil be considered as a later phase 2 for the remaining 92 homes.

Housing Improvements

Funding has also been allocated for an energy efficiency improvements programme for council housing stock (all ‘wimpey no-fines’ construction houses) in the Thorpes, Danes and Courts. The improvements will provide thermal insulation render similar to that used on other schemes in the city in order to reduce energy useage. Details of the scheme will be developed for each phase in consultation with residents and will be offered to home owners at a subsidised rate. The refurbishment will be delivered by the Council's partner Wilmott Dixon.

The Shaws are traditional brick built homes and are therefore more suitable to cavity wall insulation rather than cladding.

  • Gorthorpe - the mechanical demolition of the final block of flats began 12 September 2016 and will take 16 weeks.
