The tenant incentive scheme offers council tenants facing financial difficulties and living in properties that are too big for their needs and the chance to downsize to a smaller home which may be more affordable for them.
If we accept you onto the scheme, we can offer you -
a high priority for rehousing to a suitable property
up to two direct offers of properties (you will not have to bid)
a home visit to assess your needs and requirements
disconnection and reconnection of white goods (up to two appliances) at no cost to you
a payment equal to the city average of two weeks rent by cheque on completion of your move
Terms and conditions
you should have a clear rent account or have made continuous repayments as agreed with us for at least the last six months in respect of any arrears
you should have first explored the option of a mutual exchange and registered to see whether there are any tenants that might want to swap homes with you
you need to be able to demonstrate that you are facing or likely to face severe financial difficulties for a significant period of time, which cannot be resolved by alternative solutions
your current property will be inspected and you will need to complete any work to the property that is required by us prior to the move going ahead
your current property should be in a reasonable condition when you vacate it
we will not agree a move if members of your household or visitors to your home have been involved in antisocial behaviour
we will not agree a move if by doing so you will become overcrowded in your new property
although you will have a high priority for rehousing, we will prioritise tenants with a high housing need above those who have less need according to the Homesearch policy. The length of time you have been waiting for rehousing will not be taken into account unless there are two or more applicants with equal housing need
For more information please contact your neighbourhood housing officer. If you are unsure who your neighbourhood housing officer is, please contact your nearest customer service centre or information point or call 01482 300 300.
