Rango may be Cairo based desert musicians, but they play deep tranceinducing music from Sudanese mystic healing ceremonies played on pentatonic lyres retrofitted with electric pickups and vintage Marimbas with gourd resonators. With bluesy vocals, plucked tanbura, vibrant percussion and funky rango, this music is so powerful the Egyptians feared they might get possessed by spirits. Presented by Musicport.

The box set of CDs, containing Larkin's favourite jazz, has been produced by Proper Records, with notes by Trevor Tolley and John White, who will be on hand to talk about the compilation. The event will be hosted by Jazz critic Richard Palmer, an authority on Larkin and Jazz and co-author of Larkin: Jazz Writings with Dr John White. CDs will be on sale at the event.
