If you find yourself in an emergency, try to remain calm, get the facts and do what you’re told to do.
Ask an adult to tell you when you should call the emergency services (999).
Do you have smoke detectors in your home? If you don’t have them, speak to your parents or carer about getting some. It’s a good idea to have them especially near bedrooms and they need to be checked regularly to make sure the batteries are working.
Make sure that you have a first aid kit in the house. You can get these from chemists.
If you smell gas, tell your parent or carer. They will need to turn off at the main valve and open all windows and report the fault.
Stay away from things that can be dangerous like open water, electricity pylons and railway lines.
