Local Work Guarantee Scheme

The Hull City Council project will run from April 2009 for at least two years and will focus on Jobseekers Allowance claimants in the first year of their claim, and Incapacity Benefit claimants who have been claiming the benefit for more than a year.

The Local Work Guarantee Scheme will provide a period of guaranteed employment with a community-based organisation during which beneficiaries will access basic skills training, take part in community based project work, and undertake work tasters and work experience with local companies.

When the beneficiary moves into further employment linked to a training plan, their employer will receive a wage subsidy for at least 36 weeks - longer if the beneficiary is an apprentice or a graduate. Workplace mentors will help those gaining employment to stay in work with advice and support, jobs fairs will help those seeking employment, and a team of advisers will be available to support companies facing redundancy and downsizing issues.
