People enjoying the audio tour of Wilberforce House on mp3 playersFree MP3 audio tours of Wilberforce House Museum

Visitors can now explore Wilberforce House museum and collections whilst listening to the voice of “William Wilberforce” as he guides you around his historic former home, in an exciting and innovative new way using the latest digital technology.

We have developed a programme of free audio tours which can be downloaded and saved onto an MP3 player, iPod or some mobile phones.

Each tour contains 18 audio tracks. You do not have to follow the tracks in order but it helps if you do listen to them in sequence. You are encouraged to pause during or between tracks and you can move at your own pace within the museum, taking as long as you like in each room to study the objects on display.

Download either the classic (adult) or junior tours to your computer then transfer the mp3 files to a portable player, which you can then bring along to the Wilberforce House Museum during normal opening hours and use as your personal guide.

These tours aim to bring to life the unique historical atmosphere of what life was like in the Wilberforce household during the 18th and 19th centuries. This atmospheric tour guides the listener through each of the rooms, and comes complete with interesting sound effects!

The junior tour is suitable for children aged 8 and upwards and adults. The classic tour is suitable for older children and adults. The junior tour multiple files are 42 minutes in total length and the classic tour multiple files are 45 minutes in total length.

We welcome any comments you may have on your experience of using these tours. Please email your comments to museumeducation@hullcc.gov.uk

These audio tours were written and narrated by actor and storyteller, Chris Cade, and produced by Eddie Affleck of Edmonstone Productions in collaboration with our museum education service.
