“We’ve just done a really cool project. We had to think of ways to welcome children from other countries when they start at our school. My idea was to learn to say hello in their language so we can make them feel at home.”

Mason, 11

What do we mean by being a good citizen?

A good citizen is someone who helps make the place they live a good or better place.

You can try and be a good citizen by:

  • Thinking about how what you do might affect other people who live in Hull – like if you ride your bike on the pavement or you can’t be bothered to pick up dog poo when you take your dog for a walk
  • Doing your share to make your school and where you live a better place
  • Taking responsibility for what happens around you – don’t leave it up to other people
  • Helping take care of the environment – check out the recycling page for top tips

How can everyone help to make Hull a better place to live?

What would you change about Hull????

If you want things to change where you live don’t just moan about it or expect someone else to sort it out… there are lots of ways you can have a say and try and make things better:

  • Hull Young People’s Parliament
  • Hull Youth Council
  • Apply for funding to make things better where you live or play
  • Hull Children’s Fund

Get involved in one of Hull’s seven local area Youth Forums run by Hull Youth Council where you can try to help change things that matter to you.
