My Mum, Dad, carer is really ill – how will it affect me?
We all get ill sometimes – even our parents or carers. Sometimes they might need a doctor to look after them.
If the person you care about is really ill they might need to go into hospital so doctors can see what is wrong with them and give them treatment to and make them better. They may not be at home as much as they used to but try not to worry – hospital is full of doctors and nurses who can look after them.
If your parent or carer is really ill when they are at home they might feel tired and not able to do the normal things they used to.
If your parent or carer is ill they might not be able to give you as much attention as they usual. This isn’t because you’ve done something wrong so don’t feel bad. This is just what sometimes happens when people get ill.
My brother/ sister gets more attention than me
If your brother or sister is ill or has a disability you might feel they get a bit more attention than you. This isn’t their fault and it isn’t your fault.
You’re probably used to doing things for yourself like getting your PE kit together or making your own packed lunch. This will be a great help around the house but if you get fed up at times try talking to your parents or carer.
Maybe show your parent or carer these groups who might be able to offer support or information:
