I’ve had to move out of home. Where can I get help?
Sometimes things happen in your life that might make it difficult for you to carry on living at home.
In Hull, Young People’s Support Service can help young people who are homeless aged under 18 years and care leavers aged up to 21. They offer advice and information and tell you where you can get more help.

Hull City Council Housing Department will support anyone needing help or advice about housing. Call (01482) 300 300 and ask for the Housing Department.
How do I know when I’m ready to move out?
Young People’s Support Service can help you think about why you want to move out and find out whether you are ready.
If you find yourself in a situation where you have to live alone before you feel ready, Young People’s Support Service can help you get support so that you can manage on your own.
Am I old enough to live alone?
If you are 15 or under and living alone, Young People’s Support Service will have to let the local childcare team know so that they can make sure you are safe.
At Young People’s Support Service there is a Housing Options Service which can help you explore the choices you have about where you live like renting from a private landlord, renting from the council, or buying your own property.
I don’t live with my parents/carer – do they still get to make decisions about me?
Before Young People’s Support Service help you find somewhere to live, they will always want to check if it would be safe and right for you to go home.
Even if you are classed as ‘estranged’ from your parents or carer, which means you can’t go home, Young People’s Support Service would support you to try and sort things out with your family if that’s what you want to do.
If you are under 18, Young People’s Support Service will talk to your parents about decisions concerning you, but your parents will not necessarily make the decisions. Don’t worry, Young People’s Support Service will not tell your parents anything that will put you at risk.
If you don’t want to see your parents or carer, no one can make you but Young People’s Support Service can work with you to sort things out with them if that’s what you want to do.
