Coursework

Coursework is a way for you to show off what you’ve learnt in a subject and some of the skills you’ve developed.

What help can I get with coursework?

If you get stuck with your coursework try talking to your teacher.

Here are some tips to help you with your coursework:

  • Choose topics you find interesting
  • Plan your project carefully and give yourself plenty of time to do all your work
  • Research your topic carefully and if you need to make notes make sure you write them in your own words rather than copy them from a book or the internet
  • Keep your coursework safe
  • Write up your coursework clearly and neatly - always check your spelling, grammar and punctuation, and also check if there’s a word limit you need to stick to. Make sure it’s labelled clearly.

Check out the BBC website for advice about coursework or use the message boards and chat rooms:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/communities/onionstreet/

Remember though never give out personal details on the internet, and if have any worries, speak to a parent/guardian or other adult you trust.

What about using the internet?

The web can be great to help with your research but remember that sometimes what you find might not be correct. It might just be someone’s point of view rather than the facts.

You must be careful when you get to the writing up stage to make sure you’re not just copying information or ideas. This is plagiarism .

If you do use someone else’s ideas or quotations you must show who said it and where they said it (e.g. a book or article).
