Mental health

Someone’s mental health can change depending on what’s going on (or has happened) in their life. Things like moving school, losing someone they love, parents splitting up, pressure from school work can change how they feel.

What causes stress?

When you worry about something a lot it can be easy to imagine all kinds of scary stuff happening because of that worry.

Why not talk to someone you trust about what ever is stressing you out!! You might find they totally understand and can help you sort it out and get rid of the stress!

How can people cope with stress?

Lots of people have different ways of coping with stress. Try these top tips. You’re bound to find one that’ll work for you:

  • Don't take it out on yourself – go easy on yourself – we all get stressed just by different things and we show it differently
  • Remember that there are always people to help you. Tell someone that you’re stressed – a teacher, a mate, your parent or carer
  • Ask yourself what it is that’s causing you stress. Have you figured it out yet?? Once you have you can face the problem and try to sort it out. Even if you can't solve all of it, maybe you can begin by solving a piece of it
  • Remind yourself that most stress doesn’t last that long. It may not seem like it when you're in the middle a stressful situation, but stress does go away, often when you figure out the problem and start working on solving it
  • Write down what it is that is making you stressed. If you can see it in small letters on a page it might not seem as bad as it does in your head!!!
  • Have a break from whatever it is that’s stressing you! Listen to some music, do something else like getting out the house for a bit or chatting to a mate. By the time you come back to face the thing that was stressing you out it might not seem so bad!

Most importantly give yourself a break. We all get stressed, it’s normal and you will get through it.
