Ice hockey school at Hull Arena
 |
| The week-long ice hockey school provides first-class hockey coaching for budding players of all ages |
The school
This summer marks our 21st year of organising ice hockey schools. We were one of the original schools and we’re still going strong. Lots of our pupils have gone on to attend the School of Excellence and represent both Great Britain and England.
Whether you are interested in progressing your game to a much higher level or just want a school to improve your skills whilst having fun, this is the school for you.
Each school has approximately 17 hours of ice time. This is more than some players practice the whole season. Our top class coaches will be encouraging you and you will see some great improvement over the week.

The coaching
The school will again be run by Peter ‘Jonker’ Johnson, the grandfather of British ice hockey and a former Great Britain coach at all levels. Peter was awarded the Master Coach Certificate (equivalent to Level 5) for his lifelong commitment to ice hockey, both playing and coaching.
On ice sessions
We aim to improve your game over the week through various drills, power skating, edge control and puck control lessons together with hockey games and fun sessions.
Off ice sessions
- video coaching and talk
- laser quest
- circuit/activity wall
- football
- tag rugby
We hope to challenge you individually to reach your full potential as a team player and encourage your dedication and sportsmanship. We believe the on ice and off ice sessions combined will increase your confidence as well as your health, fitness and well being.
School fees
The school fee is £235. This includes breakfast, lunch, all activities, transport, one hockey school shirt, evaluation report and presentation buffet.
Accommodation
The accommodation this year will be at the Portland hotel for weeks 1 and 2 and at Bishop Burton Agricultural College for the ladies week. For weeks 1 and 2 pupils will be expected to share a twin bedded room and rooms/beds will be allocated by the hockey school. All accommodation will be supervised by our own hockey school staff.
Please note that all children aged 8 years or under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian for the whole week. If you need accommodation for your child, please contact us.
Meals
Breakfast and lunch is included in the cost of the school. All meals will be served at the Hull Arena. Local pupils (not staying overnight) can pay £30 extra per week for evening meals. All pupils staying in our accommodation must have meals at the Arena due to travelling arrangements.
Hockey shirts
Please make sure you measure your chest size accurately. The shirt will be 7" larger than your chest size to allow for padding. Please request a larger shirt if your padding is particularly thick. Shirts cannot be exchanged. The closing date for a guaranteed hockey school shirt is Monday 21 June 2009. Forms received from pupils after this date will still be given a shirt but possibly at a later date.
Payment
A deposit of £60 is required with each application form. The deposit is non-refundable. Full payment will be required one month prior to the start of each school. The management reserves the right to refuse any application. Two passport sized photographs are also required.
