GCSEs

Top marks for GCSEs in Hull

The 2012 GCSE results are the best results we have ever seen in Hull. The number of students achieving five A*- Cs including English and maths is 47.4 per cent; higher than the 46.3 per cent that was achieved last year, making this the best outcome the city has ever seen.

This is the fourth consecutive year of improvement, and early indications show that -

  • fifty per cent of schools have equalled or improved their results for pupils achieving five A*-Cs overall
  • fifty per cent of schools improved on last year
  • fifty per cent of schools had the best results they have ever got

Congratulations to all the students who have received their GCSE results, and to all the teachers, school staff and parents who have supported them.

If your child isn’t sure about their next steps, please do not hesitate to contact a Connexions advisor.

About GCSEs

GCSE stands for General Certificate of Secondary Education. They are the main qualifications taken by 14 to 16-year-olds as part of the national curriculum, but are available to anyone who would like to study a subject that interests them. GCSEs are usually studied full-time at school or college, taking five terms to complete.
