Local history and heritage

Hull has a long and rich history, and a wealth of historic sites and artefacts. The city's heritage is well-looked after in archives, museums and through the upkeep of historic buildings and archaeological sites.

Hull City Council has a huge responsibility to preserve local history and heritage, and to make as much of it as possible available to current and future generations.

The local studies section of our library service provides a range of current and historical materials about the local area.
Materials are available in a range of formats including books, periodicals, newspapers, maps, photographs and ephemera.

The Humber Archaeology Partnership is the designated holder of information on archaeological sites and finds within Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Our archives service is responsible for the preservation of archives and records relating to all aspects of life in Hull.

We can also help you to trace your family history.
