Disabilities
Hull City Council offers a wide range of support for people with disabilities.
Services for children with disabilities are there to help them to live like other children: learning, playing, growing, and developing. We aim to help disabled children to take part in the ordinary activities of childhood.
Support services like short breaks and direct payments also help their families to lead lives that are as normal as possible.
Young disabled people will get the help they need to make the transition from Children’s to Adult services.
For adults with disabilities, our job is to help people to live as independently as they can. Usually this means supporting the person at home although sometimes it involves helping the person to find somewhere else to live.
It’s important that whatever we do, whether it’s providing equipment, personal care or direct payments, the person who needs help stays in control.
Adult Services uses guidelines (called Fair Access) to help in deciding what needs people have and what help we can give.
