We work in partnership with a number of organisations to achieve the aims of eliminating fuel poverty in all vulnerable households and improving the energy efficiency of many others.
Warm Zones is our main partner in tackling fuel poverty. We are also working to assist people in the private sector to bring their properties up to a decent standard. More information on Warm Zones (link opens in new window).
A grant is available from the council to tackle heating needs -
to install central heating and safety measures into the homes of the over 60's who are not receiving benefits or pension credits. The grant would be 50 per cent of the cost. The grant will be given on the condition that the owner pays for work to bring the property up to the decent homes standard where necessary
to install central heating and safety measures into the properties of accredited landlords at a rate of 50 per cent of the cost. The grant will be given on the condition that the landlord pays for work to bring the property up to the decent homes standard where necessary
Warm Front grants are available to people with children under 16, the elderly (60 or over) or people with a disability, who are receiving certain benefits. You may qualify for a grant to install central heating, loft insulation or cavity wall insulation. You can establish if you are entitled to a grant by contacting Hull Warm Zone Ltd.
If you do not qualify for a Warm Front Grant, Hull City Council is working in partnership with nPower to provide either loft or cavity wall insulation at £75 per measure.
You can contribute to reducing fuel poverty by making sure you are receiving all the benefits you are entitled to. A ‘Benefits Health Check’ will tell you more.
The Renewable Energy Centre (link opens in a new window) can help source and provide grants for public sector buildings (including schools, hospitals, and housing associations) and charitable bodies, for the installation of energy efficiency measures. The centre is in full support of the Low Carbon Buildings Programme and pulls a wealth of information into one central online location, including:
information on energy efficiency and energy saving measures
links to community organisations and government contracts
sources of grants and funding
teaching resources
practical introductions to 11 key renewable technologies
local and national directories of contractors and suppliers
