Lord Mayor of Hull

 Councillor Mary Glew

The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber

On 26 June 1914 the first Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull was installed. 100 years to the day Councillor Mary Glew was installed as the Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber.

Councillor Mary Glew has been married to Allan, her Consort for 27 years. They have five children who live and work in the city.

Political career

Having gained a degree in Politics and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Hull, Mary entered politics in May 2002 when she was elected as a Councillor in the Southcoates West ward in the east of the city. Councillor Glew stands alongside her brother who is also a Councillor in Southcoates West ward and the current leader of the council.

Councillor Glew’s interests in politics grew from an early age, her aunt Frances Brady became Lord Mayor in 1985 and her uncle Charlie Brady was Chair of the Police Committee which meant that political debates and discussions were a regular occurrence in the household in her formative years.
