Your community

Different parts of Hull have different needs and face a range of issues. We work with local people in communities to help them develop the facilities and organisations that allow them to thrive.

This often means reaching decisions together to get the best for that community. For this to work, we need people to be involved in issues that affect them in their area.

How can I get involved in my community?
You can get involved in the decisions that are made for your area by coming to area committee meetings and ward and neighbourhood forums.

Area teams
There are seven area committees covering the whole city, each supported by a dedicated area co-ordination team.

Neighbourhood management
Neighbourhood management is an innovative programme of pilots across the city at Calvert Lane, Newland, Orchard Park, Ings, North Bransholme, Preston Road, NASA and Thornton’s Estate.

Neighbourhood management is a way to improve the way public services are delivered and managed at a very local level, within individual neighbourhoods.

Neighbourhood management brings together service providers and communities to identify key local problems and priorities. They will then agree shared targets and objectives and then co-ordinate activity on the ground.

In essence, neighbourhood management is about:

  • breaking down silo cultures within local authorities
  • reducing bureaucracy within all public service areas
  • making providers more accountable to residents increasing collaboration and sharing responsibility
  • bending services within existing financial frameworks to ensure that neighbourhood needs are met
