Young Enterprise - learning by doing

Youth enterprise

Hull City Council helps create opportunities for young people to start and run their own business by working in partnership as part of the Hull youth enterprise partnership. Youth enterprise encourages and supports young entrepreneurs, aged 14 to 25, in Hull.

Hull has a target of 1200 new businesses over the next 15 years. By promoting and supporting opportunities for young people to create a business idea and start a business, we can help to achieve this target.

We also believe that helping young people to develop and take advantage of business opportunities will enable them to overcome economic and social barriers, and give them opportunities for economic inclusion, progression and choice.

As part of our activity, each year we hold Hull Youth Enterprise Week where young people get the chance to learn how they can put their ideas into practice.

We work with partners who can offer -

  • free business advice and support
  • advice on applications for funding for business
  • information sessions on enterprise for young people and community workers
  • up to £1000 funding from the Youth Enterprise Bank
  • promotion of the enterprise spirit in schools, colleges and youth centres

Young Enterprise

Young Enterprise is a charity that delivers enterprise education. They support groups and young people in schools and colleges. They run the Young Enterprise company programme which involves young people running a business, that they themselves set up, for five months. Hull has had a team in the finals for last four years, two of which won national finals and represented the UK in European finals.

Youth Enterprise is the support 16-25 year olds get to set up in business - one of things we like to do is commission Young Enterprise companies to deliver services for youth enterprise companies.
