Transport and streets

A safe, efficient and sustainable transport system is vital to Hull's social and economic prospects. This means planning, maintaining and improving a varied, integrated and accessible network that balances everyone's transport needs.

Hull City Council is responsible for roads and pathway maintenance, and we control parking in the city. We work hard to increase road safety through training schemes and regular campaigns.

We want everyone to have access to the transport network. So we're increasing accessibility on our highways, and we work with providers to deliver an affordable and efficient public transport network.

Plus we encourage cycling and walking; helping us towards a sustainable transport future that will increase the health and well-being of local people.

Our transport planning has produced huge improvements in road safety and in sustainable transport. For example:

  • Number of children killed or seriously injured down by 60 per cent
  • Park and Ride use up by 90 per cent
