Residents of Hull are represented by three MPs, six MEPs and 59 local councillors. Local people are able to vote in local elections and can view council committee agendas and minutes, as well as watching full council meetings via a webcast.
Hull City Council collects and uses money from council tax to provide a wide range of basic services to the city's residents, businesses and visitors.
We consult with local people on a great number of issues, and we regularly present our priorities and plans for the city. We think it's vital for local people to be involved in the decisions that affect them and their city, which is why we have launched an ambitious plan for community development.
Our performance is monitored - by us and by others. This helps us offer a more efficient, more cost-effective and higher quality service. We're not at the standard we want to be, but we have in place a programme of continuous improvement and we are making effective changes to the way we operate.
