Our annual visit from the Hall will be a highlight of the season as the soloist in the concert will be one of this countrys most popular and eminent musicians, the great pianist John Lill. He will perform Brahms towering 2nd Piano Concerto, one of the longest and most demanding of all piano concertos. In the second half Cristian Mandeal will conduct the orchestra in Mussorgskys wonderfully colourful Pictures at an Exhibition. Mussorgsky composed this as a large piano piece, but in tonights performance we will hear Ravels rich orchestration of this masterpiece, which has been a favourite with audiences the world over since it was first performed.
