Take a stroll

One of the best ways to discover what’s on offer in the city is to take your time and enjoy a leisurely stroll. From the charm of the city’s Victorian arcades to the modern, iconic structure of The Deep, in Hull city centre the best of the old and the new combine.

Guided tours

Journey through Hull’s historic streets and discover Hull’s hidden secrets. From April to October, Hull’s English Heritage Accredited Guides can be seen plying their trade on the streets of Hull with walks of the Old Town, exploring the city’s rich history.  The route takes in the High Street and the Museums Quarter, Hull Marina, Trinity Square and hidden alleyways and courtyards. For the less faint-hearted, the Hull Ghost Walk explores the city’s scares and scandals and haunted history.

Self-guided trails

Follow that fish!  Pick up a Seven Seas Fish Trail leaflet and follow an A - Z of fish swimming across Hull’s pavements, through the Old Town and down to the beautiful riverfront. Seek out the hidden shrimp, but beware of the shark basking outside a high-street bank! The young and young-at-heart will enjoy exploring the city by finding the fish. Forty-one in total; catch them all by following Hull’s unique pavement of fish and net yourself a certificate on completion.

Few can resist glancing at a blue plaque to see what contributions buildings or their occupants have made to local history.  A Guide to the City’s Heritage Plaques tells the story behind 30 distinctive plaques dotted around the Old Town.

As you wander, you will find historic hostelries and cosmopolitan café bars tucked into the streets of the Old Town.  From the George Hotel, with the smallest window in the city, to Ye Olde Black Boy with its resident ghost, the best way to discover the secrets of Hull’s traditional taverns is by picking up a free copy of Hull’s Ale Trail.
