Arts grants

Our grants to arts are awarded to assist the development of artistic activity within Hull. Grants of up to £5000 are considered on a rolling programme during the year.

Funding is awarded to promote the development of a range of artistic activities within the city of Hull, with the aim of promoting quality and increasing the range of opportunities available to local communities. For the full criteria for grants to arts, and to check if your activity is eligible for funding, please see the application form below -



Who can apply

If you are organising or running an activity or scheme within the city boundary which -

  • is open to the general public or
  • serves an identified interest group or
  • increases the range of art opportunities available to local communities or
  • supports and celebrates cultural diversity or
  • supports and develops local artistic talent

you can apply for a grant.

Fund details

  • applications must be submitted in writing with an original signature (electronic documents will not be accepted)
  • grants will not exceed £5000
  • applicants need to demonstrate a clear need for grant aid
  • applications should be submitted in reasonable time for them to be processed prior to the start of activity (ideally a minimum of 6 weeks before the start)
  • we recognise that sometimes opportunities arise at short notice and we will try to accommodate these circumstances. Please telephone us to discuss any urgent matters of this nature
  • individual applicants will be asked to provide two independent referees insupport of their application
  • awards will not be made retrospectively
  • grants will not be made for travel or individual tuition
  • charity fundraising events, private parties, political and religious events will not be eligible
  • grants are not transferable to other parties or projects

Hull City Council retains absolute discretion in the awarding of funding grants to arts.

Applicants will be notified in writing of the decision.
