Burials and cemeteries

We have four cemeteries located within our boundaries.  

  • Eastern Cemetery
  • Hedon Road Cemetery
  • Northern Cemetery
  • Western Cemetery

Bereavement services is responsible for the standard and upkeep of those cemeteries as well as providing advice and support on all issues relating to burials, memorials and the cemetery grounds. We are responsible for and provide support and advice on -

  • an out of hours service is provided to provide burials for religious faiths that require the funeral to take place as soon after death as possible
  • the facility to reserve a grave for the future
  • the transfer of ownership of graves and provision of advice and relevant documentation
  • the provision of information on forthcoming burials
  • advice on the cemeteries rules and regulations
  • advice on when funeral flowers and Christmas wreaths will be removed
  • the maintenance and monitoring of the standard and upkeep of our cemeteries
  • grave settlement, grass seeding and levelling
  • the inspection and testing of all memorials / headstones to ensure stability and safety
  • provision of headstone permits to allow stone masons to erect headstones
