If you have a building that you think would be the perfect location to hold civil weddings and civil partnerships, you need to apply to us for a licence. Licenses last for three years.
Premises that will be considered
To be licensed, a ceremony venue must -
be a permanent structure, structures that can be moved such as marquees or structures that are open to the elements such as gazebos are excluded
be a dignified and appropriate place where couples can celebrate an important event in their lives
have no recent or continuing connection with any religion, religious practice or religious persuasion that would be incompatible with its use as a marriage venue
have at least one room registered as the ceremony room. Ceremony rooms are not required to be dedicated solely for marriage use, and certification as a ceremony room should in no way affect the normal other business of the venue. Any bars in ceremony rooms should be screened off one hour prior to the ceremony until its completion, during which time no food or drink may be sold or consumed
