Food safety complaints
We will investigate any complaint about food that has been manufactured, prepared, sold or served in the Hull area.
We will also investigate complaints regarding food premises, for example if there is concern regarding the cleanliness or standards of food hygiene at an establishment.
You can make a complaint whether you are a member of the public or a trader.
How to make a complaint
There are several ways to make a complaint about a food safety issue, email email@example.com or contact us on 01482 300 300.
If your complaint is regarding an item of food -
- keep as much of the food as possible, as well as any potential foreign body which may be of concern
- provide any packaging and/or receipt
- store the food appropriately until it is in our care, for example in the refrigerator or freezer
Your complaint will be treated in the strictest confidence. We will not disclose any your details without your permission, however we may not be able to take any take any formal or legal action without this information.
You can also deal with a complaint yourself by returning to the trader concerned and explaining your problem. It is also a good idea to put your complaint in writing and always keep a copy of the letter.
What happens after you have made a complaint
We will contact you to discuss your complaint. We will investigate the business and let you know of the final outcome.
Please note that in some cases the food that you purchase in Hull does not originate from Hull. In these cases we will usually contact the 'originating' authority. This is the local authority of where the product was produced.
The food team will then liaise with the 'originating' authority in order to investigate your food complaint thoroughly. These cases can slightly longer to investigate.
