Poisons

The law requiring retailers of substances on Part 2 of the Poisons List, above specified concentration thresholds, to register with their local authority and obtain a licence is being abolished.

The Association of Chief Trading Standards Officers and the Home Office have agreed that businesses currently selling affected products and whose licence expired after 14 January 2015 are no longer required to register with us or pay a renewal fee. We have been advised that we should retain their name on our list of premises on which poison is sold until it is no longer a requirement.

This means that you are not required to renew your poisons licence with us.

New legal requirements will be introduced for the sellers of poisons. These new requirements will be governed by the Home Office and enforced by the police and General Pharmaceutical Council inspectors. We will not be involved with the enforcement of the new laws and are unable to advise you on them.
