Money Skills

Money Skills is a financial literacy programme aimed at 16-25 year olds designed to empower people with the knowledge to make better financial choices and to help make them more capable and informed consumers. Money Skills covers topics ranging from budgeting to banking, affordable credit, credit agreements, illegal money lending and issues such as identify fraud and phishing scams.
Money Skills is an interactive resource involving a series of characters representing a selection of real-life scenarios young people can identify with. The characters are a school leaver, a university student, a recent graduate, a single parent, a business woman and a member of the armed forces. Working in teams, each representing a different character, they examine the lifestyles, spending habits and credit needs of their chosen figure. They progress through the programme ending with a game, scoring points by making informed financial decisions based on what they have learnt.

Money Skills was developed by West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service in partnership with Barclays. We are working with these colleagues promoting and delivering the programme to young people and teaching staff in our area. Training can also be provided to community groups to enable further reach out of the programme.
