Business rate relief

Hardship relief

We have discretion to reduce an amount on a business rates demand when -

  • you would sustain hardship if we did not reduce the amount
  • we believe it is reasonable to do so, and we have taken account of the interests of council tax payers

Hardship relief is only used in exceptional circumstances. If we award you hardship relief, 25 per cent of your reduced balance is paid from the council tax fund.

If you are having difficulty paying your business rates please contact us using the online form below -

We will decide whether you qualify for hardship relief and send you a revised bill or notification of refusal as appropriate.

We will also try to reach a suitable payment agreement with you to avoid the need for reminders or a summons.

Please note that if payment is not made within seven days of the instalment date, we can start to take action against you to recover unpaid business rates.
