Winner of The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Regional Award
in the process planning category 2009

Plans for new homes at Amy Johnson as part of GatewayThe RTPI granted Hull City Council and regeneration agency Gateway the award for 'planning process' for its Newington and St Andrew's area action plan.

The plan is a £400 million regeneration scheme in the Yorkshire and Humber region. It includes 2,000 new ‘eco-homes’ and improvements for more than 3,000 existing Victorian and Edwardian homes, and demolition of 1,800 houses in the borough. The scheme also involves a network of new and revitalised parks, planted walkways and pedestrianised streets.

Richard Crabtree, chair of the RTPI Yorkshire Region, praised the project describing it as ‘capable of securing a long-term sustainable community and could be used as an exemplar elsewhere’.
