Safety of sports grounds

Hull City Council is responsible for enforcing the legislation on safety of sports grounds. The purpose of this legislation is to ensure safety of spectators at sporting venues.

Within Hull there are two designated sports grounds, Kingston Communications Stadium and Craven Park Stadium. A designated sports ground is one which has a capacity greater than 10,000. A regulated stand is defined as one which provides covered viewing accommodation for more than 500 spectators.

Hull City Council issue safety compliant sports grounds with a safety certificate for the designated grounds and a safety certificates for the stadium with a regulated stand.

Areas covered in a safety certificate include -

  • fire safety
  • first aid provisions
  • structural integrity
  • inspection and testing regimes
  • record keeping and the broader 'safety management' provisions (for example appointment of safety officers, stewarding levels and competence)

If you wish to apply for a safety certificate, please complete an application form which is available to download below -
