The Housing Renewals Team

We provide support and advice to those affected by regeneration plans. We give you help to find a new home, making sure your move goes as smoothly as possible. We are the first point of contact for queries about available financial support.

Wherever possible, residents are given one point of contact so they always deal with the same person, from their initial visit to moving into a new home.

Information for those affected by demolition -

  • anyone whose home is to be acquired has access to a package of financial assistance and help to move to another home
  • assistance is available for homeowners, tenants and landlords
  • the current financial assistance package is outlined in the leaflets (your guide to financial help) - but please bear in mind that this is subject to regular reviews so may change in the future
  • please talk to the Renewals Team if you want to ask questions or find out more about the alternative housing options you will be offered

One to one meetings will be arranged with residents to discuss options in more detail nearer the time when your home is due to be demolished and they will be supported throughout the process.

The package includes a range of choices for their future housing including -

  • buying an existing house or brand new property on the open market
  • nomination to rent a new home
  • renting a Council property*
  • renting from a private landlord
  • renting from a housing association

Please access the links on the left hand menu for more information on compensation packages, options and guides.

Allocation of council homes to residents affected by regeneration, renewal and clearance programmes

Tenants and owner occupiers affected by regeneration, renewal or clearance programmes are provided with alternative accommodation outside of the Hull HomeSearch scheme.

Residents who are affected by a current regeneration programme and wish to be rehoused into council accommodation will be offered a property by the council that meets their requirements i.e. the type of property and the area they would like to live in (subject to eligibility and availability).

When a property becomes available, the Renewals Team will run a shortlist of all applicants who may be suitable for and who qualify for the property. If more than one suitable person is identified, they will be prioritised in the following way -

  • qualification to the property - (household(s) that are eligible for the property type)
  • earliest agreement date (owners/private tenants) or phase date (current council tenants)
  • number of points (based on applicants housing need)
  • residency date in the applicants property

The property will be offered to the first person on the shortlist.

Unfortunately, we cannot say how long a person may be waiting before they are offered a council property. Please be flexible about the areas and property types that you are willing to consider. Due to availability, it may be sometime before we could offer a property in a high demand area.
