Saved Joint Waste Local Plan

for Kingston upon Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire

Under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, policies in old style development plans such as the joint waste local plan (JWLP) are saved for a period of three years from 28 September 2004, or from the date the plan was adopted. Since the JWLP was adopted on 16 November 2004, its policies were due to expire on 16 November, 2007.

To avoid a policy vacuum before the DPD is adopted, we applied to the Secretary of State with a list of the JWLP policies we wished to save, giving our reasons. We proposed to delete policies that had been overtaken by more recent regional and national policies, and save the others.

The Secretary of State has issued a direction about policies in the JWLP and this can be viewed below. The policies listed in the direction are saved and remain part of the development plan until they are replaced by new joint waste DPD policies - the rest have been deleted. It is therefore important to bear this in mind when reading the JWLP.

Joint Waste Local Plan
The JWLP provides land-use policies for managing waste in the Hull and East Riding area. Its policies aim to balance social, environmental and economic costs and benefits, after full consideration of the principles of sustainable development. The plan was adopted on 17 November 2004.

The joint waste local plan will be replaced by the new joint waste local plan.
