General elections

Members of Parliament (MPs) are elected in the General Election which is held every five years. Each MP serves in the House of Commons, based within the Houses of Parliament at Westminster in London. MPs represent the interests of the people living in their constituency.

Hull is divided into three parliamentary constituencies -

  • Kingston upon Hull East
  • Kingston Upon Hull North
  • Kingston upon Hull West and Hessle

How to vote

You must be registered on the electoral register to vote in an election.

You can vote in person at the polling station on your polling card, by post, or by proxy vote (this is when you arrange with the elections office for someone else to vote for you, usually a family member). Polling hours are between 7am and 10pm on the day of the election.
