Council tax reduction

If you are on a low income and pay council tax you may be able to get a reduction on your council tax bill. If you haven't reached the qualifying age for state pension credit you can receive a maximum reduction of 80 per cent of your council tax liability for the year 2017-18.

If you have reached the qualifying age for state pension credit you are eligible to receive a maximum reduction of 100 per cent of your council tax liability.

For example, if you are eligible for a maximum reduction of 80 per cent of your council tax liability, and your weekly charge is £15.60, the maximum council tax reduction you could receive is £12.48 per week. This means you will have to pay £3.12 per week towards your council tax bill.

Alternative Council Tax Reduction

This help is only available to you if you have reached the qualifying age for state pension credit.
