Educational trust funds

The below funds have been made available by local trustees and are not Hull City Council funds. Hull City Council provides the administration support only.

Hull Education Foundation

The Hull Education Foundation is to assist young people in preparing to enter a profession, trade, occupation or service. The funding can be used to pay for clothing, tools or instruments to assist in pursuing an education or profession.

To apply for this fund the applicant -

  • must be 13 or over
  • attend or have attended a Hull school or academy
  • have a parent that lives in Hull

Applications for the Hull Education Foundation are considered in November and February. The closing date for this trust is the last week in October and the middle of February.

Leon Salingar Award

The Leon Salingar Award has been set up to assist students starting a music course at a university or recognised music college.

Applicant should -

  • live in Hull
  • attend or have attended a Hull school or academy
  • be entering the first year of a music course at a university or music college

Please note - you are ineligible if you are studying a music foundation course.

Hull Youth Trust

This trust is to support an individual or group aged up to 25 years old wishing to advance their personal development as an individual member of society through travelling abroad.

To apply for this trust you will need to provide full details of the trip including an idea of costs that will be incurred.

Elizabeth Walker Foundation

The Elizabeth Walker Foundation has been set up to support students studying a degree or higher degree in hard sciences (chemistry, mathematics and physics).

Applicants should be -

  • studying a degree or higher degree in hard sciences (chemistry, mathematics and physics)
  • between 18 and 25 years old at the start of the course
  • a resident of Hull for at least two years
  • able to provide termly reports on progress and attendance from your university tutors

Please note - applications are considered in September.

Cecil William Rutherford Trust

The Cecil William Rutherford Scholarship Trust provides funding for ex pupils of Newland St John’s Church of England Academy and South Holderness Technology College. Ex pupils from age 16 upwards are eligible providing they are working towards qualifications related to electricity, plumbing, building, architecture and medicine (including nursing and physiotherapy). Courses can be full time, part time, further or higher education or apprenticeships. Funding is paid following confirmation from the education or training provider that the applicant has commenced their course.

Scholarships are awarded to ex pupils of each school alternately every year, and the trustees started with South Holderness in 1995. Applications for this year are sought from ex pupils of Newlands St John's Primary by Friday 11 November.
