Blue badges for children

Apply online if your child is automatically entitled to a badge

You can apply online for a new badge, or renew your existing badge if it is going to expire in the next eight weeks. Access the online Blue Badge application form below.

Within the form you can upload your -

  • proof of eligibility
  • proof of address
  • proof of identity
  • photograph

However, if you are unable to upload these documents you can still complete the form online and you will then be contacted to inform you what you need to do next.

If your application is successful you will need to make a £10 admin fee payment online using a debit or credit card.

How and when you will receive your badge

If your application is successful the blue badge will be posted to your desired address. If you are making a brand new application this will be within seven to ten working days. If you are renewing an existing badge you will receive your new badge before your existing one expires.

Information on how to use the disabled car parking badge will be issued with the badge.

Children aged under three

To apply for a blue badge for a child aged under three, please contact the Bellfield Children’s Disability Team on 01482 318 585.

Children aged three to 17

Some children aged three to 17 are automatically entitled to a blue badge due to the benefits they receive. If your child is automatically entitled to a badge you can either apply online or by appointment.

If your child is not automatically eligible they may still qualify for a badge under discretionary criteria. Please contact the Bellfield Children’s Disability Team on 01482 318 585.

Automatic entitlement

A child aged three to 17 is automatically eligible if they -

  • are in receipt of Mobility Allowance or the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance
  • are in receipt of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) with a score of eight points or more in the 'moving around' activity. PIP may be awarded to applicants aged 16 and over
  • are registered blind/severely sight impaired under the National Assistance Act 1948
  • have a Certificate of Vision Impairment. The CVI does not need to be dated within the last 12 months or show the current address as it is awarded indefinitely
  • have a vehicle which was supplied by the Department of Health and Social Security, the Scottish Home and Health Department or the Welsh Office
  • are in receipt of a Government Grant towards their own vehicle
  • are in receipt of a War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (this may apply to 16-17 year olds)

Apply by appointment if your child is automatically entitled to a badge

A limited number of blue badge appointments are available at the following libraries -

  • Bransholme Library
  • Central Library
  • Fred Moore Library
  • Greenwood Library
  • Ings Library
  • Western Library

Please ring 01482 300 300 to make an appointment.

Please bring the following with you to your appointment -

  • £10 admin fee
  • evidence to confirm your child’s eligibility, for example, letters or certificates. The evidence must be dated within the last 12 months unless otherwise stated)
  • proof of address, Child Benefit letter or a letter from a health professional such as your GP or a hospital
  • proof of identity, such as the child’s current passport or birth or adoption certificate
