Sustainable build
The Renewable Energy Centre

Planning

Planning is about making sure the growth, development and use of an area is appropriate. And that it balances economic and population growth with the need to maintain quality of life, ensure sustainability, and preserve the history and character of an area.

Hull City Council is responsible for all planning issues for Hull. We research and create far-reaching, strategic plans to guide the development of the city. And we create planning policy and guidance to control and steer development.

We are also responsible for day-today planning functions within the city. We examine planning applications, provide advice and enforcement of building control, ensure the conservation of the historic environment and promote quality of design.

System upgrade

Due to necessary system upgrade work, some users might experience problems with the online planning application service. This upgrade work is expected to be completed today (Thursday 4 April).

If you encounter any problems, please telephone (01482) 300 300.

Renewable Energy Centre

The Renewable Energy Centre (link opens in a new window) can help source and provide grants for public sector buildings (including schools, hospitals, and housing associations) and charitable bodies, for the installation of energy efficiency measures. The centre is in full support of the Low Carbon Buildings Programme and pulls a wealth of information into one central online location, including:

  • information on energy efficiency and energy saving measures
  • links to community organisations and government contracts
  • sources of grants and funding
  • teaching resources
  • practical introductions to 11 key renewable technologies
  • local and national directories of contractors and suppliers

Planning systems

We have three major online systems that improve customer access to the planning system:
