Air quality

Environment Protection Section measures Hull’s air quality and the levels are assessed against national standards.

The air quality where you live, work or spend leisure time can be affected by pollution from various sources including traffic, industry and bonfires.

We aim to predict whether air pollution in Hull is likely to exceed national standards and, if so, provide an action plan to work towards reducing these levels as well as manage air quality as a whole.

We measure pollutants set out by government guidelines and use a banding system to see whether the pollution is low, medium, high or very high. We also produce reports on what we measure and how they fit the national standards.

The measures and banding index are important to determine whether there is the possibility that air quality could affect your health, although this is unlikely in most cases.
