Why become a volunteer?

We are looking for enthusiastic people who have an interest in museums and a willingness to provide a good service to the public. All we ask is your interest and commitment to spare a few hours in your week to help us out whilst doing something you enjoy.

We appreciate that there are many different reasons why people want to volunteer, but we are particularly looking for the following:

Work Experience

Are you a student or graduate who wishes to follow a career in museums? We can offer the opportunity to gain valuable experience working with collections, which is an essential element of any CV.

Expert Knowledge

Do you have an in-depth knowledge of parts of our collections that would be valuable to add to our records? We are always looking for ways to improve the information we hold about the collections. We don't know eveything!

People Skills?

Do you enjoy helping and talking to the public? If so, you may be able to help us at museum events, such as at Christmas, Gladiators Day and our Viking Event. We are sometimes also short of people to watch over our temporary exhibitions and carry out visitor surveys.
