Walton Street Market to reopen on Wednesday - 03/07/18
Hull City Council is delighted to announce that Walton Street Market will reopen on Wednesday (July 4).

The council has quickly found a new operator for the site, the Platt Group.

The Platt Group is a family owned business that was formed in the 1960’s and is run by Gary Platt, who has personally operated markets for more than 40 years.

The Platt Group operates major markets all over the country.

The Platt Group will operate Walton Street Market on an interim basis until Hull Fair in October when it will be taken over by a permanent operator.

Deputy Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Darren Hale, said: “The Platt Group has an outstanding reputation and after meeting with them it was clear that they were the right people to operate the market on an interim basis until a permanent operator is found.

“We know how important Walton Street Market is to both traders and customers so as a council our ambition was always to see the market reopened as soon as possible, and I am delighted that we have been able to achieve this.”

The market operates every Wednesday and Sunday.

Walton Street Market is one of the largest mid-week travelling markets in the country with around 260 stalls.

Gary Platt said: “We are delighted to be able to operator such a well-supported, reputable and renowned market.

“I have more than 40 years’ experience of running markets all over the country and I look forward to working with traders to build on the market’s success.”
