Plans for three further children’s homes given go-ahead - 26/03/18
Hull City Council’s Cabinet have today (Monday 26 March) approved plans to deliver three new children’s homes in Hull.

The Council will now progress plans to build three further children’s homes. The homes will meet increased demand for residential placements for the city’s most vulnerable children.

The number of looked after children in Hull has increased by 59 since 1 April 2017 to a total of 751. The current six children’s homes run by the council do not meet the current demand in the city .

Alison Murphy, Director of Children, Young People and Family Services, said: “Building these new homes will reduce the high costs of out of city external residential placements. Distances travelled will reduce making it easier for family members and social workers to keep in contact with children. We know that for the majority of children and young people in care they are happier and more settled if they are able to stay within Hull, close to their friends, schools and families. These new facilities will enhance the support children and families receive to improve their lives and outcomes.”
