Hull City Council shortlisted in LGC awards 2018 for Driving Growth - 09/11/17
Hull City Council has been shortlisted in the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) awards 2018 in the category for Driving Growth.

The Council’s regeneration team submitted Driving Growth – The Hull Approach and, today, LGC announced Hull has been shortlisted.

The team’s submission focused on delivering economic growth, supported by extensive public and private sector investment, and setting out ambitions via the City Plan. It highlighted the significant progress

being achieved, such as unemployment being at its lowest level on record and the major investments made in public realm, the Old Town, Fruit Market and Green Port Hull, as well as the substantial

investments being made by leading local businesses including RB, Smith & Nephew, Spencer Group, Siemens and ABP.

Portfolio Holder for Economic Investment, Regeneration and Planning, Councillor Martin Mancey said:

"The Council being shortlisted for this coveted national award is welcome independent recognition of the very considerable progress that we have achieved, working with businesses and other partners, in driving growth in the local economy, creating record numbers of new jobs and reducing unemployment to new lows. Our City Plan is clearly working, and we will continue to strive to achieve even more for this great city and all our citizens."

This announcement comes as welcome news following on from the Council’s regeneration team picking up awards for Hull being the Most Enterprising Place in Britain, and The Great Street award for Humber Street, earlier this week.

The Local Government Chronicle awards are the biggest and most prestigious awards ceremony for the local government sector. The winners will be announced in a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House venue on 21 March 2018.
