Hull Housing Services shows commitment to workforce development. - 26/09/17
A record thirty-seven staff in Hull City Council’s Housing Service have “graduated” at The Guildhall today, receiving their Certificates in Housing from Terrie Allafat, Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH).

As well as being a national independent voice for housing, CIH sets the professional standards and provides vocational training for housing professionals. Sixteen staff received their Level 3 certificates, which is recognised as equivalent to an A Level and counts as eight UCAS points, and a further twenty-one staff attained Level 4 which is the first step towards full chartered membership of CIH.

Juggling work and home commitments to make time for study isn’t easy and, as well as the students’ personal dedication, the Housing Service has worked as a team to help them achieve their qualifications. Working together to research assignments, the students have provided mutual support and senior staff have also acted as mentors to offer advice and help along the way.

Making the presentations, Terrie Alafat, said “In financially challenging times training budgets can sometimes suffer, so it is extremely encouraging to see that Hull City Council has such a strong commitment to learning and development for staff to empower them with the skills and knowledge they need to deliver a top class service.”

Matt Jukes, Chief Executive of Hull City Council said: “The commitment our staff have shown is fantastic and the investment that the Neighbourhoods and Housing Service has made in professional development has been considerable. We want to equip our staff with the best skills and knowledge possible so they can deliver excellent services to all of our communities and this investment is part of our strategy to achieve this.”
