Child car seat enforcement day - 21/08/17
Hull City Council, Humberside Police and Good Egg Safety will be joining forces to promote child car safety.

On Tuesday 22 August a police car will be stopping cars across the city with children on board to enforce compliance with child car seat safety legislation. The purpose of this exercise is to inform and advise on correct seat fitting.

By law, children travelling in any vehicle must have the correct child car seat. Correct fitting is determined by a combination of weight and height, and children must normally use a car seat until they’re 12 years old or 135 centimetres tall, whichever comes first.

Last year it was found that nearly 8 of 10 seats were fitted incorrectly.

Councillor Mike Thompson, portfolio holder for neighbourhoods and communities said:

“As a driver, you want to be sure that your children are as safe as possible when travelling by car, and our safety experts will be on-hand to offer advice and check that the seat is meets the standard and is suitable for the child’s age and size.”

The Council regularly holds car seat clinics on the third Tuesday of every month between February to November.

The next one will be held at Asda Kingswood on Tuesday 19 September, 10am to 3pm.
