Former United Nations Secretary-General to visit Hull to deliver Wilberforce Lecture - 14/06/17
Kofi Annan, the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations (1997-2006) and Founder and Chair of the Kofi Annan Foundation, is visiting Hull to deliver the Wilberforce Lecture in September.

Councillor Andy Dorton, Chair of the Wilberforce Lecture Trust, said: “On behalf of the Wilberforce Lecture Trust and the city, we are delighted to welcome Mr Annan to Hull.

“Mr Annan is a prominent figure and the Kofi Annan Foundation seeks to mobilise political will to overcome threats to peace, development and human rights. His experience in this important global issue and the messages Mr Annan will share at the lecture will no doubt resonate strongly with the purpose of the Wilberforce Lecture Trust and what we are trying to accomplish.”

Mr Annan’s visit coincides with the Freedom Festival which celebrates through artistic and cultural expression, Hull’s independent spirit and historic contribution to the cause of Freedom.

Lord Prescott, who has worked with Mr Annan on various global issues, and invited him to Hull in its Culture Year, said: “I am looking forward to welcoming Mr Annan to Hull. His experience with children and young people in conflict areas is world renowned and he will be able to give a valuable insight into his experiences.”

Mr Annan will deliver his lecture at Hull City Hall on Saturday 2 September. Tickets will be released on Friday 23 June via the Freedom Festival website. Tickets are free and must be booked to attend the event.

During his visit Mr Annan will also attend the opening event of the Freedom Festival, meet with the Hull Youth Parliament and visit the Ferens Art Gallery and Wilberforce House.
