Young people can get creative with tipi tents - 07/04/17
During the Easter holidays a Sound and Vision Project will bring together young people and a lead artist to create art installations housed within tipi tents.

Through funding from UK City of Culture Creative Communities Hull City Council’s Youth Development Service are hosting a number of relaxed community based workshops during the Easter Holiday. These movable, vibrant exhibition spaces will be used to offer interactive opportunities to bring a wider audience and inter-generational connections together at public events during seasons three throughout the summer holidays and during October half term during the Youth Arts Festival as part of Hull’s UK City of Culture 2017 celebrations.

The Tents, Dens and Tipis workshops will give young people the opportunity to work with a local artist to decorate the interior of their Tipi. The young people will be taken on a journey of self-discovery to look at what their roots mean to them e.g. family, community, culture and their ideas will form the basis for the creation of three distinct installations and are taking place on:

Martin Green, CEO and Director of Hull 2017, added: “Sound and Vision is a brilliant opportunity for young people to work with professional artists and helps breaks down barriers between young and old.”

Sound and Vision is one of 60 projects to receive funding through the Hull 2017 Creative Communities Programme, which is being delivered in partnership with the Big Lottery Fund.

The project aims to raise the profile of youth culture and youth arts to a wider audience and break down barriers between young and old within communities. The relaxed workshop is free and is open to young people aged 10 years and over.
