Strengthening to Park Street Bridge now complete - 30/03/17
Work to strengthen Park Street Bridge has now been completed and will reopen from 12pm on Friday 31 March.

The major improvement scheme has seen the removal of 7.5-tonne weight restriction, and will help to reduce congestion across the city’s transport network.
It will also ease traffic travelling on Ferensway which is currently used as the main city centre route, by enabling an alternative route for buses and coaches to access Paragon Interchange.

Councillor Martin Mancey, Portfolio Holder for Transport, said:

“The completion of this vital scheme highlights our commitment to expanding the city’s transport infrastructure and these improvements play an important role in helping to reduce congestion and support economic regeneration.

“I would like to thank pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and the bus companies for their patience during these works, and I am delighted at the significant benefit it will provide to all road users.”

Abby McGrath, scheme project manager at Network Rail, said:

“We recently completed vital strengthening work to Park Street bridge as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan. The work which took place removed a weight restriction on the bridge and this improvement will reduce traffic in Ferensway, make pedestrian access into the interchange safer and reduce congestion.

“We finished our improvements to the bridge on schedule and the road closure was extended so that Hull City Council could carry out their own work. We have worked closely with Hull City Council on our upgrade work and would like to thank all those who have been affected by the closure for their patience whilst this vital work was carried out.”
