100 names of Lord Mayors Plaques set to be unveiled - 12/01/17
With 28 Lord Mayor's Centenary Plaques celebrating Hull people already unveiled, the full list of the 100 people that will be celebrated is set to be announced later this Friday (13 January).

Following the end of a very successful opening week for Hull UK City of Culture 2017, the latest nominations for the Lord Mayor's plaques are a continuation of the Made in Hull theme, which celebrates the lives of local people.

Councillor Mary Glew, who leads on the plaque scheme to commemorate people from Hull, said: ""The announcement of the full list of 100 people from Hull that will be honoured with the Lord Mayor's plaques are all people who made a difference nationally and internationally and this comes at a very significant time.

""As we look forward to the future with renewed optimism with the Hull UK City of Culture 2017 celebrations, it is important that we remember the past and the people who helped to shape Hull into the wonderful city it is.

""We are really proud of these pioneers that made a difference and the Made in Hull theme is further helping to engender pride in people about our history heritage and moving us forward in a really positive way.""

Phil Batty, Director of Marketing, Communities and Legacy for Hull 2017, said: ""Made in Hull is all about celebrating the last 75 years of our history, but people from and of this city have been contributing globally for centuries.

""Hull 2017 is proud to have the opportunity to be part of the Lord Mayor's Centenary Plaques scheme which delves deeper into Hull's history and recognises the known and less known individuals who have contributed locally, nationally and internationally.""

The plaques will be unveiled throughout the year to complement the Four Seasons theme of the Hull UK City of Culture 2017 year.
